few years ago a customer who had us add and alter millwork in his 1911 Arts and Crafts home paid us a compliment. He said someone, while viewing a room with some of our work in it, commented how wonderful having all the original woodwork must be. When he told his visitor half the room was brand new, his visitor couldn't believe it.
The image above shows one of the windows in the Knott residence, where we added a birdhouse as part of the window treatment.

That anecdote pretty much sums up our mission. Whether we're designing and building something to compliment existing millwork or architecture or whether we're working from a blank sheet of paper, our goal is to ensure everything looks as though it was meant to be there--that everything fits together naturally.
Another anecdote illustrates the lengths to which Artwood Design will go to ensure every piece works together. They were invovled in the development of the Lake Louise Railway Station--a heritage CPR railway station. Part of the development required creation of Arts and Crafts furniture to match the period buildings and fixtures.
Rather than simply building the furniture, they found and used 100 year old leather for the furniture cushions. Knowing the Calgary Petroleum Club was renovating and removing their leather wallcoverings, Artwood Design got the leather for the railway station.
It doesn't matter if your project involves renovating an existing home, creating furniture for a dinning room, or building a large commercial project from scratch. Artwood Design has the skills and experience to create exactly what fits.
